![]() | ASTHMA "LIVE BEFORE 99" The source material for this release is a live recording of a pre-Basketcase project called Mr. Asthma from sometime before 1999. Originally an improv jam session on Detroit public radio, this updated mutation by Nate Young consists of tape manipulation, reeds, brass, cello and strange, metallic loops completely restructured to sound ancient. Sort of a collaboration a decade later. C-30 or cd, $8.

![]() | THAMES "HOT ROOM" Montreal should be in Michigan. This release makes me think about the possibilities of forced continental drift. Merging Montreal with Detroit would definitely be an improvement. Upgrade for Detroit, Montreal might be pissed. Blake Hargreaves on homemade electronics, mixers and synths. Alex Moskos on guitar, synth and overall destruction. 3 tracks on a c-30 or cd, $8.

![]() | HATRED "SCIATICA" The last couple weeks I've had a hard time walking. This tape represents sciatic nerve problems: the inability to walk, numbness of the limbs, sharp pain and the realization that you can damage yourself without even moving. Not a light topic, not an easy listen. 4 tracks of slow, traumatic movements made with a UHER 4200. C-30 or cd, $8.

![]() | ARTHUR DOYLE + HOLLOW BUSH, DEMONS, DRUG KNIVES - LIVE AT AC TEMPLE - $12 In Birmingham, Alabama there is a fountain at the Five Points. The fountain is of a goat lord surrounded by small animals. Water sprays from the mouths of each animal, the streams cross and a pentagram forms. Birmingham is also home to Arthur Doyle and Hollow Bush (Rodger Stella, Bryan Martin). A collaboration between Arthur Doyle and Hollow Bush is a strange thought for anyone who knows Rodger Stella or has seen Arthur Doyle. Even more complex is the image of the two of them behind closed doors discussing the approach and direction of the set to follow. What truly blew my mind was the set itself. Starting out with Doyle's vocal work alone, the sound had a sparse and delicate feeling. Rodger Stella soon joined Doyle with a mirror of vocal samples. Doyle hears himself, smiles, then stops to listen. What followed was a intricate working of vocal loops and cut up sax with hand over beer electronics. Rodger Stella and Arthur Doyle are an odd couple but some how a perfect match. My favorite performance of the 2007. This is followed by the latest in live Demons visual music straight from the Invisible Darkness tour and committed to DVD here for the first time. The night ended with a very rare Drug Knives set - Demons with Stella playing for themselves in the muscle-relaxed atmosphere of each other's company. Drug Knives is just that deep long stare into oblivion.

![]() | WOLF EYES, SICK LLAMA, RAVEN STRAIN - LIVE AT OBERLIN - $12 Oberlin rules because even though it's a school there's a bar with good beer and the bar is like 20 feet from the stage. What happens when you have a bar on a campus and a killer gig = Wolf Eyes, Sick Llama, Raven Strain? Witness the mayhem that ensues! Someone gets so excited they pull the fire alarm to jam along! This dvd has all you would expect from a truly wasted line up playing in Ohio. Lots of slamming, lots of pits and lots people you know. Sounds from Raven Strain and Sick Llama to make you pass out and puke, and a slam section from Wolf Eyes for the masochistic minded.
